Counsellor and Eco-Therapist
I began counselling twenty one years ago in the UK, before moving to the USA and then finally settling in New Zealand. In that time I have worked as a school counsellor, and for various agencies and corporations, as well as in private practice.
The life or death of your marriage, relationship, and family may depend upon the therapist you choose. Imagine needing open-heart surgery. Your life is on the line. Would you go to just any doctor, or look for an expert heart surgeon? It’s no different when selecting a Marriage or Relationship Counsellor. The therapist you choose will be operating on your heart – emotionally. I hold that responsibility earnestly.
I currently specialize in relationship counselling, as I love helping people reconnect with themselves and their partners, and learn the tools for more effective communication.
I am trained in specialist, research based, relationship counselling techniques and theory such as Gottman, Imago and Systemic therapy, and continue to invest in ongoing relationship training to keep up to date on the very best approaches. In addition, I am part of a relationship therapist supervision group, with weekly training and supervision, giving you the support of a team of relationship experts as part of my commitment to giving your relationship the very best support it can get.
Issues that are commonly raised are:
- Loss of connection, not feeling “in love” anymore.
- Poor or no communication
- Intimacy issues
- Conflict management
- Differing life goals or life styles
- Preparation for marriage counselling
- Separation support, including parenting through separation.
I also continue to see individuals. I have experience working with children, adolescents and adults struggling with:
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Self harm and suicide
- Work place stress
- Life transitions
- Sexuality and intimacy issues
- Immigration adjustment
- Parenting issues
- Self esteem
- Anger management
- Sexual abuse
- Abusive relationships
- Life coaching
I am passionate about helping individuals navigate their way to happiness and enrich their relationships with their partner, friends, family and especially themselves.
I work respectfully with all cultures, sexual orientations, and spiritual beliefs.
I take a positive, open, holistic approach to counselling that is both pragmatic and solution focused, but also considers the surrounding factors that may be contributing or causing your current state of unhappiness.
I specialize in Eco-therapy, which combines mindfulness, systemic and narrative counselling, eco-psychology, spirituality and quantum physics principles to enable you to make sense of, and create meaning from the emotional and psychological difficulties you are experiencing. Counselling session can take place outdoors, in a natural environment of your choice, if you desire.
I also incorporate other highly effective therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), strengths based therapy, person centered therapy, sand tray work, play therapy and art therapy.
