Shane McCardle

Shane McCardle

PGDipClinPsych, PhD

I am a clinical psychologist, graduated from Auckland University in 2004.

I have worked with adolescents and young adults experiencing difficulties with:

  • anxiety (including panic, social phobia, OCD, phobias and perfectionism),
  • depression and low mood, life transitions,
  • stress and time management.

I have also worked with psychosis and drug and alcohol problems.

My principle models of therapy are Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I work from an approach of collaboration and non judgemental curiosity. Exploring emotions, thoughts and behaviour patterns. Seeking an understanding of how these patterns have developed and looking for more adaptive ways of coping.

I have a part time private practice, based in Takapuna, while also working in the public sector at a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.

I am registered with the New Zealand Psychology Board and a Member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists.
